SANTO DOMINGO, DR – In a brand-new episode of Puro Golf Podcast, hosted by Vic Báez, the founder of Dominican Leaf, Raudy Jiménez, reaffirmed his mission to transform how tobacco is consumed and understood in the Dominican Republic. In a compelling conversation filmed at Cigar Mix, Jiménez delved into the value of the cigar as the ultimate symbol of Dominican identity.
Raudy, who describes himself as a passionate smoker who discovered a "toy store for adults" within the tobacco factories, explained that Dominican Leaf’s goal goes beyond selling a product—it is about creating sensory and educational experiences.
Tobacco: An Art Form That Belongs to the People
Addressing the common perception that cigars are an elitist product, Raudy was blunt: "The last thing this industry needs is to be elitist." For him, cigars are a part of the local culture and heritage that predates the arrival of Columbus. He noted that while cigars have historically been an export-focused product, local consumption has grown exponentially over the last five years, thanks to a new generation protecting the legacy.
Dominican Leaf and the "Leaf Tours"
One of the major announcements of the interview was the official launch of the "Leaf Tours." Starting in January (kicking off at the Blackbird factory), Dominican Leaf will organize monthly factory visits so smokers can experience the craftsmanship behind every cigar firsthand.
Additionally, Raudy invited followers to keep an eye on his "Ruta del Humo" (The Smoke Route) series, where he explores various local cigar lounges and shops to show the public that a welcoming place to enjoy a premium smoke is always just around the corner. "My idea is for people to discover the businesses that might be just a block away without them even knowing they exist," he commented.
Respecting the Masters: The Tribute to Eladio Díaz
Raudy also took the opportunity to highlight the figure of Eladio Díaz, whom he described as the most consistent and respected Master Blender in the Dominican industry. He invited the entire community to join the upcoming tribute to Díaz’s legacy, with tickets available through the Dominican Leaf platform.
Advice for the New Smoker
To close the interview, Raudy sent a message to those just entering the world of cigars: "Follow the content creators who are doing the work of translating technical industry terms into the language of our generation." His ultimate goal is to help new smokers skip the "trial and error" phase and move directly to the conscious enjoyment of a fine smoke.
During his appearance on the Puro Golf Podcast, Raudy Jiménez shared a powerful perspective: Dominican cigars are not merely objects to smoke, but cultural capsules where history, art, agriculture, and tradition converge.
Every cigar tells a different story. Behind every blend are agricultural decisions, complex fermentations, skilled factory hands, and generations of knowledge passed down within the Dominican tobacco industry.
Seen through that lens, cigars stop being simple products and become living narratives of one of the Dominican Republic’s most important cultural industries.
